BANYAN TREE RESORT, CHIKMAGALUR
The dramatic character of this unusual site presents three major aspects; (1) Downward slope creates a sense of hovering above & away from the daily routines of earthly life (2) Upward slope creates a sense of the earth whose presence dominate the site (3) Sky. The design seeks a contemporary expression that provides renewal through a primordial reconnection with earth and sky. Buildings are carefully located to preserve the sites natural topography, vegetation and water runoff pattern. The Built form is visualised as a set of floor and roof planes that hover over the site heightening the sense of dis-lodgment from the earth.
