Sacred Grove
About the project:

Nestled near the quaint town of Chowdepalle in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, this 15-acre site is envisioned as a serene spiritual retreat dedicated to the followers of Sri M (Sri Madhukar Nath) — an Indian yogi, spiritual guide, orator, and educationist. Surrounded by hills and immersed in nature, the retreat is grounded in Sri M's philosophy of simplicity, natural living, and Swadhyaya (self-study). The campus is designed to be self-sustaining, offering a tranquil environment for introspection, meditation, yoga, and spiritual learning. The project program comprises a range of thoughtfully planned spaces, including a Visitor’s Centre, Library, Wellness Centre, Meditation Hall, Gaushala, Dining Hall, accommodation cottages, and staff quarters. A key feature of the site is a sacred grove at the entrance, inspired by mythological traditions, which includes an array of sacred and indigenous trees — setting a contemplative tone upon arrival. Sustainability is integral to the design. A retention pond at the site's lowest point harvests rainwater for year-round use, while designated farming zones provide fresh vegetables, fruits, and flowers for daily consumption. Architectural elements such as shaded courtyards and wide verandahs in each block enhance passive cooling, ensuring comfort while remaining in harmony with the natural surroundings.
